‘Would You Rather…?’ Game–for Travelers (Round 1)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’d love to get to know you, my fellow travelers, better (and to see which of you I’m most similar to.) How? By playing a simple game called “Would you rather….?” using travel-related situations, some of them a (tiny) bit extreme. I highly recommend this for long bus journeys, by the way.

To play, just pick a few of the questions and tell me/us which situation you would prefer to be in. There is no third option or way around it. It’s one OR the other. :)

And please explain why. Feel free to share an anecdote re: a similar situation you found yourself in and why it was tolerable or not. Also, come up with your own questions if you like. If there are enough, I’ll write a second post and give you credit.

Note: I’ll share my answers in a few days…and announce which of you is most similar to me in terms of answers! :)

1) Would you rather stay in a room that has…

A. a dirty bed?
OR
B. a dirty bathroom?

2) Would you rather stay in a town/city/country…

A. a bit too long–to the point where you feel a tiny bit bored (even though you initially loved it)?

OR

B. not quite long enough–ie, leave when you still love the place and feel a bit sad walking away?

3) Would you rather travel on…

A. a really crappy chicken bus on super treacherous roads…driven by a maniacal driver…for 6 hours?

OR

B. a pretty good quality bus (comfortable seats, at least) for 16 hours on less treacherous and somewhat decent roads?

4) Would you rather…

A. eat disgusting live insects (not grasshoppers, but something like beetle larvae)?
OR
B. sleep with insects in your bed (ie, bedbugs) and be aware of them the entire night?

5) Would you rather be bitten…

A. by mosquitos all over your body (even on your face and on your ears)?

OR

B  just a few times by an unusual/unnamed insect that leaves an unusual and mysterious mark on your skin and makes you itch worse than nightmarish poison ivy? (Feel free to share sand fly stories–LOL.)

6) Would you rather, if stranded somewhere remote for an entire day, be…

A. without food?

OR

B. without water?

7) Would you rather

A) sleep in a good place (comfy + clean bed and great bathroom) in a bad area (unattractive, but safe/convenient neighborhood by day but dodgy neighborhood by night)?

B) sleep in a bad place (soft bed w/springs popping out and skuzzy shared shower with cold water) in great area (excellent location and safe 24/7)?

8. Would you rather travel…

A) with one really awesome person you met at a hostel (and are possibly even attracted to) and their friend, whom you don’t like at all?

B) or totally alone–in a place where most people are in couples and groups.

Note: Where you’re going, there’s no hostel or place to meet others. In fact, it’s sort of couple-oriented.

9. Would you rather…

A) Do a vision quest in which you fast (food and water) for a few days while totally alone in nature?

B) Take a hallucinogenic drug under shamanic supervision in the jungle for a ‘journey’ that will likely last all night?

10) Would you rather visit a museum…

A) that everyone tends to see that’s lovely and historical and ‘important’ but ever so slightly overrated?

OR

B) recently set up by people involved with a radical cause that you happen to believe in (however, some of those in charge have served time for violent crimes, including murder, and the location is in a dodgy area)?

Thanks for playing!

I look forward to reading your answers–and to seeing new questions you might have. And I hope to post my answers in several days. :)

Ooo, fun. I love this game. Okay, here are my answers:
    1. B. dirty bathroom. I experienced bed bugs in Malaysia and never, ever, ever want that again. Besides, I figure I could just clean the bathroom… spraying down a mattress with Raid is a much harder operation. (Trust me, I know.)
    2. A. Stay longer. I prefer to travel slow so I can really get to know a place… and because I’m lazy and don’t like to move my luggage a lot.
    3. Umm, is this a trick question? Or am I supposed to say A because that proves that I’m an adventurer? Well, I’m not biting. I’m going with B all the way. I’ve been roadsick enough on buses and I kind of like my kneecaps so having them jammed up against the bag of someone else’s seat isn’t fun for me.
    4. A. eat the bugs. Again, I’d do anything to avoid sleeping with bed bugs again… even pop maggots like candy. I don’t care.
    5. I guess A as long as the mosquitos aren’t malarial or carrying dengue. (I know you said one or the other but you didn’t say I couldn’t provide my own stipulations.
    6. This is the same as question #2, right? I’m still going with stay longer.
    7. A. nice place with dodgy neighborhood. Hey, what can I say? I like me a nice bed. Besides, having a crappy neighborhood just gives me a reason to stay in at night & catch up on bad TV!
    8. Oooo, this is tricky. I’ve done both — traveled with someone I really didn’t like & traveled on my own at a place that was only couples and I can’t say either of them were particularly enjoyable. But I guess I’d go with B — go solo.
    9. This one scares the bejesus out of me. Both of the options are like my nightmares. I guess I’d have to go with A because hallucinogenic drugs scare the heck out of me.
    10. I can’t do both? Because I kind of want to do both. Besides how dangerous can a museum be? I guess I’ll have to go with B because it sounds interesting and some of my best museum experiences have been at small, hole-in-the-wall places that are on some street I probably shouldn’t have wandered down.
Now, I’d be curious to hear your answers!

Hi, Sally. Love your answers! The bed bug thing sounds absolutely horrible…oh my god. As for the treacherous bus thing, I get it, too. Knee cap bumping sucks! Your answer to 7 is funny! 8–yeah, tricky. 9. Glad that was scary–cool! he, he, h And 10. I LOVE that you picked B. I may need to go in an rewrite that one slightly to kick it up a notch. Make the ‘curators’ even more intense. I got that idea, by the way, from some travelers I met who went to a museum run by some super scary people associated with a terrorist group. Long story….

Thanks for taking the time to answer and I promise I’ll post my answers, too. I think you and I had similar ones, by the way!

And thanks for pointing out #6 as a duplicate. I just fixed it:

      6) Would you rather, if stranded somewhere remote for an entire day, be..

      A. without food?
      OR
      B. water?

    6. same as my answer with #2

    7. B….

    8. B.. alone… dont wanna have awkward moments iwth other people

9.A… no drugs for me but im interested to meet a shaman and hear his stories about supernatural beings :-)

    10. B… sounds more interesting

Hi, Flip. Great answers! Sounds like you’ve had bed bugs before and been bitten by sand flies perhaps. Happened to me too, scar and all. Awful stuff, no? The longer bus trip is appealing, isn’t it? Those hellish ones can seem like they’re going forever and ever…

So crappy place in a nice neighborhood? Hmmm….wonder why. Love that you picked B for question 10. You sound adventurous. Would it scare you if they were terrorists? Of course, they just want to show you the museum. LOL

    1. B. Dirty bathroom (I had a nightmare about the dirty bed!)
    2. B. Leave while I still love it, and get to the next cool place.
    3. Ooh, I want a little bit of both! But following the rules, I’d prefer B. the comfy long busride.
    4. Eewww! Aack! *gag* – B.
    5. (see above) A.
    6. A. without food, although I’d get a raging migraine. (without water, I’d probably still get the migraine but be less healthy.)
    7. B? For a great view of the sea/castle/mountains and convenient location, I’d take the skuzzy room and sleep on the floor if I had to!
    8. Probably B, solo, since that’s what I’m used to. But I’ve traveled with those A people, too.
    9. A. Not good at fasting, but definitely not into drugs or shamans.
    10. A. I’m more into history than causes, although some of the places I visit are open for 2 hours once a week and I’ve planned my entire trip around them!

Hi, Elizabeth. Great answers! Yeah, #4 and 5 are pretty rough, isn’t they? I’m not sure what I’d do in those cases. Are you a migraine sufferer? Me, too. I think we agree on #7.

I really enjoyed your answers. Thanks for playing!

What a fun post! Thoroughly enjoyed reading answers so far and will check back later this week but here are my Would You Rather answers:
    1) B = Dirty Bathroom – good sleep is important
    2) B = Leave before I’m bored, while I’ll yearn to return. I move often for work – know this all too well.
    3) A = the shortest possible time on the road. Yeah life is about the journey but 16 hours of driving means you’ll sleep most of that away.
    4) A = eat bugs – if it’s not a bed’s worth of bugs it’ll be over quickly.
    5) B = mosquito bites suck too so I’ll go w/less of the affected sites thnx
    6) A = without food. Takes longer to die from starvation than from dehydration.
    7) A = Nice room, crap neighborhood – good sleep is important and you can limit your exposure – might be exciting too.
    8) B = Alone. Life is short, I’d rather be relaxed and happy – I’d just end up making friends with the couples or groups and enhance the adventure that way.
    9) B = Shaman supervised thanks :-/
    10) B = degreed in art history and versed in many major museums – not usually a draw for me unless they’re offering something different. I’ll go w/the sketchy politicos! ha!

Hi, Maria. Love your answers! Maybe that’s because they’re rather similar to mine!

Would you really eat the bugs? Would you need to hold your nose or have a stiff drink first? :) Shaman supervised, huh? Better than a few nights out there–somewhere–alone w/out food an water. Could get pretty intense anyway. Maybe more so than option A. :) I’m glad to see that answer to #10. You rock! :)

      • Maria
        August 3, 2011 | 12:59 am

Yes, eat the bugs – Quickly! Let me get away with just a spoonful? Only have to do it once, right? *laugh* Had Balut in Cambodia – duck/chxn embryo boiled, unhatched. Depending on ‘age'(one week, two week, etc…)you don’t get much beak or feet. Guess what? Tastes like chicken!

Not a fan of camping – A boyfriend once teased he’d make me camp in Montana. My reply, he’d better find the Hilton-at-the-edge-of-the-wilderness. *smirk* So, yeah I’d opt for the all-nighter w/the Shaman.

Was in Barcelona last month, skipped all museums but recently established MEAM (Museum of European Art Modern) – Found it completely by accident – even my expat (of 3 yrs) host hadn’t heard of it.

Believe I need to visit – Love this site and way you write (silly rhymes = add $3.50 plz – *chuckle*), we’d have a blast *mischievous grin* Or let me know if you travel through Texas. Will probably base here another year. Mi futon es tu futon!

Yes, eating the bugs would have to be very fast. One tablespoonful, however. :) Just once. Did you really eat Balut? No way! I saw that on Fear Factor a long time ago. Looked repulsive. Did you get beak or feet? I would have vomited on the spot. You are brave, man…really brave. Tastes like chicken? LOL

I hear you re: the all-nighter vs camping. Yup, I do.

You get $3.50 for the rhyme–check’s in the mail! And sure–come visit. We can pretend it’s couch surfing–lol. Ever in this area? I’m 30 minutes from NYC. We would have fun. And I’d love to check out Texas. Hmmm…. This sound cool!

1 b) I’d rather stay in a room with a dirty bathroom. I’d rather have a place to sleep when I get tired..besides, I can always poop in the woods if I needed to

2 b) I’d rather stay some place not long enough…and nurse the feeling that I’d want to return

3 b) Ummm…yes. Comfy bus, 16 hours. Nothing worse than feeling like you’re going to die at every turn.

    4) I’m. Not. Answering. This. No. and No. I know you said I couldn’t but no.

    5. b) Mosquitos are from hell. Give me one or two bites and itching in one spot.

    6. b) I know I’m supposed to say water, but I love to eat.

    7. b) Think I’d rather stay in a safe location. Although the bad neighborhood might make a great story, I’d value safety over comfort

    8. b) I think you know my answer. Couples and groups? I ain’t skeered. Solo baby!

    9. a) As I said in 6, I love food. But I’m not sure I dig hallucinating in the jungle with a perfect stranger.

10 a) Only you could come up with this question. Why do I think you’ve actually done b?

So…you’d take the super itchy mysterious bug bite? Hmmm.

9 cracks me up-“I’m not sure I dig hallucinating in the jungle with a perfect stranger.” Good one!

    1. Dirty bathroom. I’m thinking I could at least maybe clean it myself. But a dirty bed…no. Just no.
    2. B – always leave them wanting more.
    3. B – 16 hours is long, but at least I know I’d get there alive. I’d try to sleep through most of it.
    4. AUGH!!! I can’t answer this one. You have no idea how much I hate bugs. I would choose C = Kill myself. (See? There’s always another option.)
    5. You’re evil. That’s all there is to it. I’d go with the mosquito bites, damn you. 😉
    6. Without food, naturally. Although no one else would want to be stranded with me if I had no food, that’s for sure. You wouldn’t like me when I’m hungry.
    7. A. I would just make sure I was in my room by nightfall.
    8. Are we talking about one of those all-inclusive resorts for couples where you’re trapped there the whole time, or is it like a town or a city where I can get out and see sites and whatnot all day? Not that it matters, I’d still choose B.
    9. Oh God. I wouldn’t do either one of those. But if I had to choose, I guess I’d go with B. Mainly because I know I can’t go days without eating without getting really, really sick–and I wouldn’t want to be alone in that case. At least with the drug, there would be supervision.
    10. Wow. This one’s totally situational. I would need to do more research. For instance, how reformed are the murderers? What was the context of their murders? How dodgy is dodgy? What’s the cause? Are there other people around, or just me?

Hi, Gray. Thanks for taking the time to answer–you really made me laugh, by the way!

Love your response to #5! Definitely an evil question on my part. You’d go with the mosquitos? Not the one mysterious yet horrible bit? I think I get it. Do you get cranky when hungry? I do…

Hallucinogenic with a shaman, huh? You’re very brave. :)

As for 10…let’s say they’re on the order terrorists of some sort. And to see their ‘museum,’ you have to go into their part of a country that’s not safe because…well, their people are there and they’re a bit volatile. You’d be alone or with another tourist or two. The best part: they’ll ask you to sign their guest book–and include your e-mail address. :) Note: I was not in this situation.

    1. A. Dirty bed – I figure I could take the dirty bed linens off or sleep on the floor. Or sleep in the sparkling clean bathtub. :)

    2. B. Not quite long enough – it gives me a reason to go back and something to look forward to.

    3. B. Much prefer comfort for 16 hrs than feeling like I’m going to die for 6 hrs.

    4. A. Assuming a lot of alcohol can be included. :)

    5. B. Mosquito bites itch too so I’ll go with the fewer itchy spots.

    6. B. I love food. And some food can have a high water content, which covers the need for water.

    7. A. I’d just take precautions and arrive back before dark.

    8. B. I’d rather be alone than with a person I can’t stand.

    9. A. I wouldn’t like being out of control & under the influence of a drug.

    10. A. I generally like the lovely, historical museums. :)

    This is great.
    1. B: You can always clean up in a bathroom
    2. A: Rather stay longer in a place. Even if I get bored, I like seeing everything a location has to offer.
    3. A: I rather enjoy maniacal drivers. A bit like a roller coaster with some chickens thrown in.
    4. A: I’d eat them so there’s no chance of being bitten during the night. Had bedbugs three times while traveling and they are a pain.
    5. B: I’m pretty good a ignoring an itch but I’ve never been tested by either of these.
    6. A: I get thirsty way too easily and I’d rather have water.
    7. B: Don’t mind either of these but I’ve slept on some horrible beds in my travels so this would be easy. Plus I’d be in an excellent location when I woke up.
    8. B: I’m rather be alone most of the time.
    9. A: Don’t really like either option but I’d rather not take a drug.
    10. B: While I would really like A, I like museums overrated or not, but B sounds interesting.

    Hi Lisa,

I didn’t know you were posting more often now. That’s great :) I’ll stop by more often.

    1. Dirty bathroom – I’ve used hundreds of them in my life and it hasn’t hurt me yet

    2. Stay too long – I don’t get too bored anywhere easily.

    3. Hard to say, but I think I’d take the 16 hour trip. I’ve never been on a chicken bus, but took a 13 hour trip in Cambodia and it wasn’t too bad.

    4. Definitely sleep with bugs. Another thing I’ve done often and it hasn’t hurt me yet – aside from the bites.

    5. Hard to say, but I’ll take the mosquitoes, they’re not too bad

    6. Definitely go without food

    7. Good place in a bad area – it would be a lot more comfortable

    8. Travel alone – I like hanging out with friends, but in this case it doesn’t sound too desirable

    9. Rather not say

    10. The radical cause people – wouldn’t be frightening to me.

    1. B. I’d rather stay in a lodging with a dirty bathroom, because I can shut the door and sleep in the bedroom and not think about the bathroom. A dirty bedroom is harder to ignore.

    2. A. Long stays are more fun. You become a part of the place, boring days and all. We stayed in Bangkok for a few weeks and toward the end we had run out of tourist things to do. Still, walking around town and eating was rewarding enough.

    3. B. I have time. I’d rather take the long road there, if it’s more comfortable.

    4. A. I’m an adventurous eater, so I will always rather eating something unusual than to have bugs in my bed.

    5. A. I’d take the mosquitoes, because I don’t tend to react too badly to their bites.

    6. A. A day of fasting is no big deal, but no water is much worse. I’ve spent many days of travel eating very little (on trains, etc), but always with plenty of water.

    7. A. Good lodging trumps location for me most of the time. We stayed in a dodgy area in Sacramento last month – in a cool motel. I’d stay there again.

    8. B. Better alone with a good book!

    9. B. Neither seems my cup of tea, but I don’t want to be fasting AND alone for days.

    10. B. I love museums, especially those set up by people who really care about them. For example, a tiny insect museum in Chiang Mai was a highlight for me,

Hi, Ana. Good point re: the bedroom being hard to ignore. You’re there too many hours…

Would you really eat the bugs? While they’re still alive? You must be a super adventurous eater. And braver than me! I love the fact that you mentioned an insect museum in Chiang Mai. Funny in the context.

1.) B. dirty bathroom. I would rather sleep in a clean bed.

2.) B. I would rather a short enjoyable stay and leave with good memories.

3.) B. I’m going to choose the quality bus on this one. It’s a tough question, but basically I figure both are going to the same destination and what the heck could be going on inside the bus that takes 16 hours. Is hunter s. Thompson the driver? does the driver keep getting lost. I’m really curious about the 16 hour bus.

4.) B. sleep with bed bugs, never a guarantee that they aren’t there anyway!

5.) B. I would rather be bitten by the unusual insect. Poisen Ivy rarely bothers me.

6.) A. I would rather be without food. I can live longer without food than I can without water.

7.) A. I would rather sleep in a good place in a bad neighborhood.

8.) A. with one really awesome person and their friend.

9.) A. I would rather do a vision quest. I see no need in taking drugs of anykind in order to be high. One can be high on life!

    10.) A. I would rather visit a museum!

Hi, Robert. Interesting answers. Funny re: #3! The 16-hour bus takes a different route–one on flatter roads (decent highways). The bad bus goes on crappy roads in the mountains.

Fascinating that you answered A to #8. I think you might be the only one….unless that’s my answer, too. (Will reveal mine soon.)

Good for you re: the vision quest….that takes serious courage!

    1) A. a dirty bed -> I can sleep on the floor or in the *clean* tub. But a dirty bathroom is the most disgusting thing EVER.

    2) A. a bit too long–to the point where you feel a tiny bit bored (even though you initially loved it) -> I have never made it to that point travelling so I’d like to see how long that would take. Years? Decades?

    3) B. a pretty good quality bus (comfortable seats, at least) for 16 hours on less treacherous and somewhat decent roads? -> Comfort and not fearing for my life beats speed any day.

    4) A. eat disgusting live insects (not grasshoppers, but something like beetle larvae) -> If it’s just 1 bug. If it’s lots of bugs, I might have to take the bedbugs.

    5) A. by mosquitos all over your body (even on your face and on your ears) -> I’d rather look like I have smallpox than scratch my skin ’til I’m bleeding.

    6) A. without food -> I get heat exhaustion easily so no water would be no dice.

    7) A) sleep in a good place (comfy + clean bed and great bathroom) in a bad area (unattractive, but safe/convenient neighborhood by day but dodgy neighborhood by night)? -> I’ve lived like this. I’d rather use common sense at night than be in the worst spot of a nice area.

    8. B) or totally alone–in a place where most people are in couples and groups. -> I can’t stand travelling with annoying people. I’d rather be by myself than with someone I want to punch in the face.

    9. B) Take a hallucinogenic drug under shamanic supervision in the jungle for a ‘journey’ that will likely last all night. -> I’m scared of how weird my brain might be in a vision quest. I’d rather attribute the weirdness to a drug.

    10) B) recently set up by people involved with a radical cause that you happen to believe in (however, some of those in charge have served time for violent crimes, including murder, and the location is in a dodgy area). -> This was harder than the bug question since I’m a museum junkie. I’d rather have the chance to see art in it’s new stage before it is super famous. Like how it must’ve been at Warhol’s Factory. Plus, Caravaggio’s works are by a man who committed violent crime, so it’s not that different.

Hi, Erin. Good answers! So a dirty bathroom really gets you? I see. And you’d prefer the longer, easier ride. Makes sense! Would you really eat the bug–even if a large one (as in the photo)? You’re brave!

Sounds like you and many of the others would rather be alone than in that situation I described. And I totally get what you’re saying re: the vision quest. Can you imagine what your mind could do? Maybe it would be worse than the hallucinogenic.

Thanks so much for your answers; I enjoyed reading them! :)

Nothing is more disgusting to me than a dirty bathroom. I feel like there isn’t enough sanitizer in the universe to get rid of the nasty feeling if forced to use a dirty bathroom. Yuck!

If the bug I had to eat was not a roach or slimy, I think I could do it. Maybe with some liquid courage. Otherwise, I’ll take bed bugs.

    7) A

    1) Dirty bathroom. I can get in and get out, but a bed I have to spend a lot more time in.
    2) A bit too long. Rushing through too many cities can make you burn out on traveling all together.
    5) This is super tough for me because I am so allergic to many bugs, I will say mosquitos just because I have had some bad allergic reactions to mysterious bugs that have caused severe swollenness and even fevers.

Hola, Rease! I’m with you on the dirty bed thing. It’s a lot more time there than in the bathroom. As for the mosquitoes vs other insects, your answer makes sense. Some of those odd ones can be worse. I actually have some scars from where ‘something’ bit me in Panama and I scratched too much. :(

    1. Dirty bathroom- I would rather sacrifice my cleanliness than my sleep.
    2. Stay longer- I like to explore a place in-depth.
    3. 16 hour bus ride- I’d rather be bored for 16 hours than spend 6 hours fearing for the safety of my life.
    4. Sleep with bed bugs- I would rather take the bites than eat a bug.
    5. To me, both these choices are the same because when I get mosquito bites, they swell up like grapefruits and are extremely itchy. I’ll pick A, only because I wouldn’t want to wonder what kind of mysterious insect bit me.
    6. Without food- like everyone said, you can live longer without food.
    7. Safe neighborhood- I would sacrifice my personal comforts for my safety.
    8. Alone- even if I had to be surrounded by couples, I would rather that than to travel with someone I don’t like at all.
    9. Drugs in the jungle- I don’t think I could go days without food and water, and I’m afraid that would be a worse experience than one night of tripping on drugs.
    10. Can I pick both? I guess I’ll go with B, since I can see a historical museum anytime.

Hi, Danielle. Thanks for joining us here for a round of Would You Rather… :)

You would sleep with the bugs? You must be repulsed (as I am) by the thought of eating one. I think I relate to your answer to #9. I think that being along like that on a vision quest could bring on an even more intense experience somehow–due to being alone in the dark and the sounds one would hear.

Nice to see that you picked B for #10! :)

    August 5, 2011 | 4:16 pm

I wanted to chicken out on a few of them so for a couple I just have answers and no reasoning because if I did I might change sides while typing. Great Idea and a lot of fun!

1)A: Dirty Bed because when I go to sleep, it doesn’t matter where I am, I go to sleep.
2)A: A bit too long because there would be no “what if” thoughts.
3)B: Pretty good quality bus because I enjoy bus rides.
4)A: Eat bug because I can get it down and over with.
    5)A: Mosquitoes
    6)A: Without food
    7)A: Good place, bad area
8)A: With others because if I really like the one person, I can suck it up being with the other person.
9)A: Vision quest because no drugs for me.
    10)A: Overrated Museum

I think I might have an “A” personality.

Hi, Bob. Thanks for playing. I love the fact that you almost chickened out and changed sided. I get that–totally!

I see what you mean re: ‘what if’ in the case of not staying long enough. I recently wish I had stayed somewhere longer–in a small town in Panama. I was really connecting with the locals. But a surfing competition was coming into town and I didn’t want to deal with the noise.

Interesting that you chose A in #9….I’m not sure if anyone else did. If the one person is great, you could just focus on them–or maybe take on an activity that requires a lot of involvement or just attention to minimize the actual interaction.

I like how you say you have an “A” personality. I wonder now if I should have organized this to be sort of A = one type and B = another. Like a Facebook quiz. Well, maybe next time.

      Thanks!

What kind of hallucinogenic drug were you on when you came up with these questions and options? This is fun and interesting but…creative! :)

    1. B. Dirty bathroom easy to clean up or use minimally. You’re in a bed all night

    2. B. Rather come back than waste my time when I could be seeing somewhere else

    3. B. The amount of time doesn’t bother me at all if it’s comfortable. There’s plenty I can do on a bus ride.

    4. A. Easy to just eat and swallow versus spend the night with insects and bugs

    5. C. Neither. I HATE mosquitoes because they LOVE me. If pressed, have to do B but this is the worst question on here.

    6. A. I have enough fat stored I can survive. Can’t go long without water.

    7. B. I am a minimalist in terms of sleeping. Don’t need much, prefer to be safe.

    8. B. As an introvert, LOVE spending time by myself. This isn’t an issue at all.

    9. A. However, body can only go 3 days or so without water so that’s pushing it. No drugs for me.

    10. A. Love historical museums. Just see what I want to see and get out. Museums don’t inspire THAT much passion in me for B.

Your question is the funniest thing I’ve heard all day, Jeremy. Just hilarious! Creative is a good word for it alright. My mind certainly works in mysterious ways–he, he, he. Perhaps I’ve had too many shamanic worms over the years…

Anyway–I see that you would eat the insects. Nice! You’re brave. I’m not sure I could. But then, I don’t know about sleeping with them either. Hmmm. As for the water, yeah–I’m with you. Are you an introvert? Then 7 makes sense.

    1) Bathroom – You can always shower in a fountain!
    2) Not Long Enough – You can always come back.
    3) Crap Road – I long for crap roads, ever driven on a road marked motorway in Kazakhstan?
    4) Sleep with Insects – Then maybe nibble and much on them during the night!
    5) B – Give me the unnamed insect anytime. I hate Mossies.
    6) Food – No Water, I just couldn’t cope. Might have to drink my own…
    7) Good Bed/Bad Area – Sounds like the place has an edge!
    8) A – I like the challenge of the dealing with the person I don’t like.
    9) B – Not really into drugs, but hey when in Rome.
    10) B – I don’t know why, just sounds interesting.

    Keep going need more…..

Hi, Si–and welcome to the Chicky Bus. Nice to meet you! Thanks for playing…I just love your answers!

So you’d go for the crappy bus plus hell road? Cool! Maybe we were brother and sister in a past life. I’ve opted for the shorter but more hellish one quite a few times (although lately, I’ve been taking it easy, sort of). You’ve been to Kazakhstan? Wow. Must be wild there…

You’d do both–sleep with the bugs and eat them? I may have call you the “winner” of this crazy game–LOL. No one has chosen both! :) You’d be challenged by the person you don’t like in #7? Sounds like you really like challenges. V cool!

And before even looking, I knew you’d chosen B in Q 10. Not surprised at all. What if they were terrorists? Would you still visit? And sign their guest book? :) Thanks so much for playing.!

    Fun idea! Here’s mine :)

    1. B- Dirty Bathroom… you’ve got to sleep, but you could hold off on showering a day if you had to.

    2. B- Not long enough… always like a reason to come back to places I’ve loved.

    3. B- bad roads are my downfall.

    4. A- I’d much rather eat bugs that sleep amongst them. (Got the heebie jeebies just thinking of it!)

    5. A- mosquitos don’t tend to like to bite me, but I’d still much rather get bitten by them than a mystery bug

    6. B- I’m always thinking of my next meal, so I’d much rather be without water for a day.

    7. B- location, location location (and I’ll bring a sleep sack to bypass the grossness.)

    8. B- I don’t mind being alone, and in a place with groups and couples I’d be allowed to be alone, unabashedly!

    9. B- That sounds amazing…!

    10. A- I think that things are “overrated” tend to be so for a reason, and I kind of like “must-sees”.

    1. B – Dirty Bathroom all the way. There are ways around that, but not with a dirty bed.
    2. B – I’d prefer to leave wanting more and still with a good taste in my mouth. You can always go back again if you need more time!
    3. A – You only live once and I feel like the chicken bus would be a far more memorable experience.
    4. A – Temporary discomfort over what would surely be a night of sleepless agony.
    5. B – I loath mosquitos! I’d take my chances with the mystery bugs.
    6. A – Agua is vital, food can wait
    7. B – I’m more of a bang for the buck type gal when it comes to location. Chances are I’m not going to be in the hotel very much anyways, so location trumps amenities.
    8. A – Couplely places kinda make my stomach turn. I’d take a few companions over feeling nauseous by myself.
    9. BOTH! – Though if forced to pick just one, maybe A. I had a friend try out the latter and he ended up alone in the jungle in the fetal position without pants.
    10. B – You only live once!

This was so much fun – such a great idea! Thanks!

I’ve only done it a few times and have always felt something underneath me. On my recent trip, when I camped in San Blas, I was on an air mattress. That was quite nice. Felt nothing except the mattress.

Of course, under normal circumstances, one wouldn’t have one…

Woops, left off my reply to the Chicken Bus. I hear the best way to make this happen is the bus that crosses into Belize from the Yucatan and you get goats with the chickens :)

For most of those, option C: None of the above. I like my rooms clean and hopefully luxurious. Have eaten insects, done w/ that, don’t want to either sleep with them or be their dinner etc. I’m just an old broad who likes her comforts-lol.

Hi, there. Would love to know which of them would not be “C”–LOL. Just kidding. I hear you. Comfort is a good thing!

Wait a minute…you’ve eaten insects? Wow. I’ve never done that. Freaks me out too much. I have had dog, however. Not by choice. I was in China and well, got scammed. That’s a story for another time! Thanks for checking out the game.

    Cool game :)

1.B. I can clean a dirty bathroom easier than a dirty bed.
2.B. I always tend to leave without see-ing everything, kidding myself I’ll return.
3.B. Hard choice this one! But would rather avoid maniacs!
4..B. (Pattern developing lol). Would vomit at A. In fact I want to vomit when I smell the bondegi they eat here so …..
5/6. Both A. I am already a mozzie attraction, and food loses to water every time.
    7. A. Comfy beats dodgy.
8.B. Am used to travelling alone and being the odd singleton. Better than being stuck with someone around that I despise!
9.A. I could never willingly give up control of my mind.
10.B. Def B because there’s less chance of disappointment.

Hi, Valerie. Glad you like it and thanks for playing! I may post another round soon. We’ll see!

Anyway, I love your answers. I agree with many of your answers–especially the dirty bathroom and the rad museum. Perhaps the next round, I’ll ask for submissions of scenarios. Would be fun to see what people come up with.
