I’d taken coffee estate tours in Salento and, of course, tried the coffee. And I thought it was really good. But…one day, I had the best coffee I’d had on my entire trip. In fact, no coffee satisfied me as much during the weeks that followed. I can still remember how much I savored it.

Where was I exactly?

Not on a finca, as you might imagine, or at a fancy cafe, but right in the center of Salento, the heart of Colombia’s coffee country. At one of the stands in the town square, among the various restaurants and ‘Willies’, Jeeps used to get around on the local roads and out to the Cocora Valley. It was recommended to me by an Aussie named Lucy (thank you–if you’re reading this).

What did I have?

A cappuccino.

What made it so perfect?

There was plenty of milk in it and a ton of froth (made to look like a leaf)–and the coffee was strong, but not bitter. It was cappuccino perfection, I swear. I can’t speak for the black coffee or the lattes, etc. But I will say this was an incredible cup of coffee. I can’t recommend it enough.

The price: 4500 COP (about $2.50).

I don’t know the name of the place–I’m not sure it had one–but if you’re interested, just go to the square and match up my photo to the cafe. And think of me while you’re drinking it. icon_smile-6825103

How About You?

Are you a coffee drinker–and if so, where in the world have you enjoyed great coffee? Ever have a cup of it and think–this is the best I’ve ever had? Where was that? And what made it so good?

Or maybe your coffee, what you make at home, is the best. If so, how do you make it? I use a French press and love it!
