Written on January 26, 2014 by CB Driver in Nature, Photo of the Day
This red-topped cactus I spotted in Billy’s Bay, Treasure Beach, Jamaica, was one of many I came across. On this particular day, I’d gone for a walk–in the opposite direction of the other bays in the area, where one finds a handful of restaurants, guesthouses, etc.
I was already pretty far of the beaten path, but I thought it would be fun to take it a step further and explore the other part of the area, where few people seemed to be walking.
I wasn’t sure where the road led. I just knew that things got even more rural and, most likely, even more beautiful. And I was rewarded with gorgeous views of meadows, with the Caribbean in the the background, and the kind of solitude one only finds in nature.
After walking for a while, I saw this cactus and stopped to take its photo. I thought the colors were pretty and I also liked the textures. Definitely worth a photo or two.

Your Thoughts/Reactions?
Are you a fan of nature photography? Do you find that taking nature photos puts you more in the moment somehow? I sometimes feel that way–although, at times, I feel it pulls me out of the moment.
Do you find cactus/cacti intriguing? Like to photograph them? I do, possibly because I’m from the northeastern U.S., where the one ones we see are small ones purchased at the store.
