Frenchman’s Bay, in Treasure Beach, Jamaica, was a real treat for me. It is gorgeous to look at for one thing, and it’s known for being the best ‘swimming beach’ of those in the area. I must say that I agree–even thought the photo I’m sharing is of the waves crashing.

In reality, it was actually calm enough to swim when I was there several weeks ago. In Billy’s Bay, where I was staying, swimming was tricky. Sometimes, when it was windy, it was better to stay out of the water. There was also an undertow to deal with. It was sort of hit or miss.

Here, however, it was a different story. The beach is much larger and one can walk out further. Yes, there were waves, but for the most part, it was just right.

How About You?

Is white sand a must-have for you–or could you live with gray or black sand? For me, it’s about two things mostly: water and noise level.

Is it warm and can I swim or wade in it? And is the beach crowded or empty? I like the ones where I can enjoy solitude. Meaning no annoying touts. This and the other ‘bays’ in Treasure Beach provided both.

Are the same things important to you? Or would you put up with noise or touts  in order to be on a picture-perfect white sand beach?

Originally a blog about travel, chickybus now also covers lifestyle. It’s still a ‘bus,’ but it now takes you on other types of ‘rides.’

Hi, I'm Lisa...traveler, writer, teacher and chickybus driver. Off-the-beaten-path travel is an exciting way to see the world and to live in the moment—and that's what chickybus was about for many years. The blog was a bus, a vehicle that took readers/riders on various travel journeys...

About the bus

Originally a blog about travel, chickybus now also covers lifestyle. It’s still a ‘bus,’ but it now takes you on other types of ‘rides.’

Like the experience so far, consider a ride on the ‘magic carpet’: my memoir about travel off the beaten path and into the moment.
