When I first saw a man riding on a stand up paddle board with two dogs, I did a double-take. What the heck?? Was I seeing things?
First of all, I knew that being on one of these boards wasn’t exactly easy. I tried it and sort of fell a few times; it took several attempts before I was able to actually stand up. Once I did, I wasn’t up there for long. A minute maybe. Most of the time, I was kneeling down (or sitting and riding the board like a kayak.)
Imagine doing this with a dog…or how about two of them?
This man did exactly that. I wonder if it was easier or more difficult. Maybe the dogs provided extra balance somehow? But what if they got restless? What if one jumped off? Then what?
In any case, I enjoyed trying this and especially watching others. I knew I wasn’t alone in finding it challenging (and rewarding).

Your Thoughts/Reactions
Think it’s easier or harder to do this with a dog or two on board?
Have you tried it (without a dog)? Were you good at it? Not so good? Would you try it again?
If you happen to excel at this, can you share the secret to it? Thanks!

I rented my paddle board at a place called Harker Board Co on the malecón in La Paz. The owner, Bryon, was very helpful to a friend of mine who’d dropped his prescription eyeglasses while out on the water. He helped him look for them when it happened and then, again, the next morning. He also patiently explained to me what I needed to do to stand up on the board–and it helped! Nice guy and Harker’s is a cool place for a drink, too.
